Why wedding Ring should be worn on the 4th finger?

My dearest gang,

We humans are quite a complex lot. We tend to give a lot of value to hearsays rather than making that extra effort to get to the bottom of things.

I remember reading in one of the 100s of motivation books that I've read sometime back and I cant quite remember which one or who wrote it but I remember the essence of the story somehow. It went like this, the author asked his wife why she'd cut off the top of the aubergines (or was it another veg? Gee! Apologies, my memory does not serve me well this morning) before baking them? The wife said her mom did it that way. When he asked his mom-in-law why she did it that way, she said her mother did it that way too. Not contented with that answer the hubby decided to ask his wife's grandmother. Grandma said in her time she had to cut the tops off as they did not sell the right size baking tins then, to make sure all the aubergines would fit. So there you go.

We sometimes do what we do, based on hearsay and not based on facts.

So why then wedding Ring should be worn on the 4th finger?

I googled and got this for you.

Straight to the Heart

In ancient times, the Egyptians and the Romans shared the belief that a vein from the fourth finger lead directly to the heart. As such, it seemed a logical place for the placement of the wedding band. The practice was passed down and the fourth finger is now universally known as the ring finger. Science has since disproved that theory, but it is still romantic to think that our wedding rings are on a direct path to our hearts.

Oh! Boy! This is still not a definitive answer for us.

Ok, how about this explanation that I received from OG Munirah Hamid (K Muni). Maybe this is it! (Ha ha ha...and why there is a ring of non conviction here in my voice?). Hey, guys this is strictly for fun. Enjoy.

I have not attempted to delete the chinese literature that came together here for authenticity. I also left translation as is. I love such studies. It has high entertainment value, indeed.

Cheers,

Ruby.

(Why wedding ring should put on the forth finger)

(Pls follow the below step, really god make this a miracle)

(Firstly, show your palm, centre finger bend and put together back to back).

(Secondly, the rest 4 fingers tips to tips).

(Games begin, follow the below arrangement, 5 finger but only 1 pair can split).

(It was correctly pointed out by my friend (very sharp and observant person, as always and thanks dear for pointing this out) that the model is wearing wedding ring on little finger. Shucks! Hey wait a sec, I get it...I think that is model's own ring and they forgot to remove it during photography.)

(Try to open your thumb, the thumb represent parents, it can be open cause all human does go thru sick and dead. Which is our parents will leave us one day).

(Pls close up your thumb, then open your second finger, the finger represent brothers and sisters, they do have their own family which is too they will leave us too).

(Now close up your second finger, open up your little finger, this represent your children. Sooner or later they too will leave us for they got they own living to live)
(Nevertheless, close up your little finger, try to open your further finger which we put our wedding ring, you will be surprise to find that it cannot be open at all. Because it represent husband and wife, this whole life you will be attach to each other).

(Real love will stick together ever and forever)

(Thumb represent parents)
(Second finger represent brothers & sisters)
(Centre finger represent own self)
(Fourth finger represent your partner)
(Last finger represent your children)

Interesting enough for us to ponder.

Hi Ruby,

I LOL reading that 'aubergine' story. It happens to all of us. We simply accept at face value and never question why. But it is so funny anyway. It perked me up on this boring sunday as all my men are napping, football!! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mas,

As I said studies on us human, have always fascinated me. This one such study. Amazing doing all the finger wrestling to prove this theory. Enjoyable indeed. Thanks for dropping by dear.

Hi Anne,

Yeah! The 'aubergine' story is funny. Lots of us are guilty of following hearsays blindly, me too. Ahh, need one say it!...June is a month of napping for our men sweetie. Thank God its once in 4 years!! Ha ha ha!

JJ dear,

I'm no different. I too thought its about the vein near the heart thingy! THanks for your visit dear.

Love,

Ruby.

ss dear,

Indeed it sounds logical. I got a high doing the finger test. When the 4th finger cant be pried open, hmm...this must be the mother of all explanations, until someone comes up with a better theory. Ha ha ha!

Sara dear,

Logical indeed. Thanks for dropping by.

Fizzy sweetheart,

Yeah! I miss you. Lama tak dengar. So did you have a smashing time? Must have.

Ayu dear,

Come come now. Dont despair. Lets go pictorial.

Get your hands into position as per illustration. Done?

1st try and part thumbs away from each other. Possible and done right?

2nd try and separate the index fingers. Also possible.

3rd try the little or pinky fingers, possible right.

4th now try the fourth fingers. Try to part them. You will find the muscle just wont twitch. Both the fingers will stay glued indicating as a symbol, a permanent relationship between husbands and wives thus that is the appropriate wedding ring finger. Get it now dear? Or you are more confused...ha ha ha.

Cheers,

K Ruby.

Hi Ruby,

I think logically the 4th finger looks the sweetest to have a ring on. That must be the reason, huh? What say you?

NoZ

If all other explanations fail, I agree with NoZ lah. The 4th finger look sweet to hold the ring.

Hi NoZ and Mazna,

Ha ha ha! Why not? That too could be viable explanation, based on aesthetics. How about this theory...the first wedding ring ever was made in a size that could only fit the 4th finger? Possible?

Cheers,

Ruby.
