My dearest gang,It was an unforgettable night!
I managed to recover just in time from my bout of cough to catch the evergreen crooner, Engelbert Humperdink. I certainly have no complaints with the postponement of Engelbert’s show from 23rd June to the 28th June.
The night started with some announcements from the emcee, to switch our phones off, about keeping our tickets and so on. The one I remembered the most was that under no circumstances were we allowed to throw our bras and panties on stage. Ha ha ha. The President, OP Habibur Rahman, apologized to the crowd for the inconvenience incurred due to cancellation of the show. But honestly, I take my hat off to the RMC Ops for their high character in compensating the crowd. True character presents itself in times of adversities. Kudos to you guys, you did well.
The crowd was quite excited with Engelbert’s appearance on stage. He belted his familiar fabulous numbers to the euphoric crowd. For some of the songs, to be honest, Engelbert could take a rest and just hang the mike to the crowd and they could just belt out that number for him. Such great loyal fans he has. I can’t confess to knowing these songs being quite young…ha ha ha
In between songs, Engelbert being a smooth entertainer cracked some hilarious jokes. Being the good performer that he is, he did an incredible ala Michael Jackson’s moonwalk quite smoothly. He could still shimmer and swing sensuously, still screaming with sex appeal. The show sadly ended and there was encore and he sang and he cheekily donned on his House robe indicating no more encore! He’s off to bed…ha ha ha!
We left the hall satisfied that our man has delivered a great show.Cheers,
Ruby.

Ruby,
So many singers sing Engelbert's songs these days. I like 'Quando, quando, quando', sang recently by michael Buble and Nelly Furtado. Have you heard this version Ruby? Very nice, listen to it if you can.
Lucky you to be at the show.
Anne.
Did you know 'Release Me' was on the UK charts for 56 weeks and that's a record. What a song!
Salmah.
Engelbert is amazing at 70 and still going great.
Jo.
All Engelbert's fans, here's something interesting that I read...here it is: 'it was Humperdinck, not Elvis, who made famous the sideburns and flamboyant leather jumpsuits. Engelbert often jokingly asserts that Elvis "stole" the image from him. Nevertheless, the two legends often performed one another's songs, and enjoyed a lasting friendship until Elvis' death'.
Mas.
Hi Ruby and Mas,
Here's another Engelbert trivia, from reading around. Engelbert Humperdink is his stage name. His real name is Arnold George Dorsey. Whoa! Mouthful kan? Yeah he changed his name after he contracted tuberculosis that almost cost his singing career.
Anne.
Hi K Anne,
Of course I have heard that version. I love it to bits. Really wonderful. I love many other renditions by Buble too. Yes, I am so lucky to be able to catch the show. I was having very bad cough for a long time. That night was special to me in many ways. Thanks K Anne for your comment.
Hi Salmah,
I have heard it broke some record but had no idea it stayed on the UK charts that looong! Wow! That's a tremendous achievement. To be honest I can never say 'Release me' can ever be a favourite song of mine, as it is about breaking-up. I always feel sad about breaking-up. I like 'Quando, quando, quando' more anytime. Ha ha ha.
Dear Jo,
Yes, I agree Engelbert is going great at 70. He turned 70 on 2nd May 2006. I think singing and being happy kept him fit. So we must all emulate him.
Cheers,
Ruby.
Hi Mas,
Why thank you for such an interesting information. Yeah! That famous side-burn era.
K Anne dear,
I'm going to Arnold George Dorsey show...yeah, quite a mouthful. Ha ha ha! Engelbert Humperdink sounds better, though it was quite a mouthful for the 'Melodi' guy compere, Wahid, to pronounce even Engelbert Humperdink. I accidentally saw Melodi on one Sunday and actually caught sight of OP Habibur Rahman talking about the show.
Whoa! He contracted tuberculosis! Just goes to show we all get some challenges in life no matter what, any time. It is all about how we bounce back isnt it? It is about our will at the end of the day.
Engelbert bounced back with a total personality change and now he's a legend!
Cheers,
Ruby.
I agree with you Ruby, the OP bouncers look very nice and friendly in the pix. You gals pandai make merry always kan? Cute lah adik2 ni.
K KatyJ.
Wow! Fancy meeting Dato Jimmy Choo the celebrity shoe designer. Dato you make us Malaysians real proud.
Sarah.
Hi Ruby,
Greetings. Lama tak drop by. Have been away.
I read Engelberts ads in the papers and wished I could see him. But I had to go outstation. At least I could catch some news about him from your blog. Bet you girls enjoyed yourselves. I love his songs my era lah tu.
Khatijah.
Hi K KatyJ,
Yeah! The 'bouncers'..ha ha ha, they were so courteous to us that night. They are OP Stupe and OP Azly from RMC. We got to know them whilst 'harassing' them at the door, in our attempt to get up close and personal with Engelbert. Later OP Stupe wrote in his blog entry, that we 4 TKC gals were entertaining. That was so sweet, honest. Visit rmc_opa.blogspot.com or opstupe.blogspot.com. Thanks K KatyJ for your comments.
Hi Sarah,
You're right. It was wonderful to meet Dato Jimmy in the flesh. To be honest, I wanted to meet him in a long while. I missed meeting him twice in London by minutes at some functions when I was living there. That night, it was great. We struck up some nice conversation and heard he would open his boutique here sometime soon. Isn't that fabulous! Thanks Sarah for dropping by.
Hi Khatijah,
Are you still in Penang?
Oh yes, we enjoyed the show.
That night for me was more than just the show. It was pretty special as I learned a lot about 'human relationship' from many angles and aspects both general and personal. That is why I love meeting people, we learn a lot from socialising and people add colour to our lives. Interesting and exciting indeed.
Lovely to hear from you Khatijah.
Cheers,
Ruby.
K Ruby,
It's rmcopa.blogspot.com
unfortunately, it has not been updated as much as i wanted it to be. Experimental blog la, katakan.
The official OPA website is still opa.org.my
:)
It's a pleasure to come across you babes while we are *bouncing friendly*.
Hi Stupe,
Thanks for the correction.
Update the blog at a leisurely pace Stupe. Dont worry about it, to ensure we dont burn out. Many bloggers lately are suffering from burning out, I notice. So lets just do it at a pace conducive to our schedule.
Ha ha ha...sure Stupe, we 'babes' (just love being called babe..) went home sooo happy that night seeing Engelbert, meeting friends and also meeting new friends. As the famous cliche in 'Casablanca'...'This is the beginning of beautiful friendships.' (slight adjustments though to the saying).
Cheers,
Ruby.
You do know EH did sing a cover of Casablanca as well right?
