My dearest gang,Dato Dr Norraesah Mohamad may be petite but she speaks volumes.
She speaks volumes in four languages mind you. Bahasa, English, French and I missed out the fourth, and it was not Urdu, as we were jesting at the luncheon talk. K Chah as that's how she is fondly known amongst us OGs, has headed banks and corporations. Now she is a respected entity in the political arena.
Yes, a group of us were treated to an interesting talk on Women and RMK9 held at KL Hilton on 11th July organized by Persatuan Tindakan Wanita Islam (Pertiwi). Prof Dato Nik Safiah Karim is Ketua I and Dato Rahmah Hamid is Ketua II, of Pertiwi.
K Munirah Hamid who is an OG, is a Pertiwi AJK (a dedicated member, I can see, since knowing her personally), informed me that Pertiwi is 39 this year and K Muni herself has been involved with Pertiwi those number of years as well since she's 16. Kudos to you K Muni (so now we know...ha ha! Hold your horses...she's not bashful about her age, in fact she is so proud to have arrived there with good health and wisdom and success and being a grandma to two lovely toddlers. In any case she looks so youthful. Bravo babe).
A slight digression there, pardon me. Anyway, K Chah touched on so many varied issues, both the technical and social aspects.I would like to begin with her parting quote: ‘What a hunger is left, unfulfilled, in our society for no reason other than that women has been so devastated by others and so dishonoured by ourselves’ by Marianne Williamson.
She was indicating, we women are not doing enough for ourselves. We were told that it is all up to us, as women to go the distance in our own advancement. Nobody is going to walk the talk for us. We have to pick ourselves up and get going. She said, to make it, we have to be pro-active and we have to identify opportunities and seize them and not wait.
I found it interesting how we were reminded that women were the highest contributor to world growth, by the World Bank. Yes, women were placed at number one position, second was China and third India, as contributors to world growth. The ladies at my table just found this awesome, as to our role in this world. We women, are a group to be reckoned with, but unfortunately quite an under utilized resource as yet.
K Chah spoke of ‘First class mind’. I was puzzled and didn't quite catch the meaning initially and later found out it has to do with being progressive, being innovative, being sophisticated in our thoughts and approaches to overcome problems and constraints in our daily lives. Being today, being current, being up-to-date. Hmm...it is a great concept, I must say and I do believe in it myself. I have my reservations currently, as to how we can achieve that. To me, in my understanding of our current situation, it can only be had, provided we have educators with ‘First class mind’ at schools and 'First class mind' nurturers at home too. This is the only way, otherwise we will only talk the talk. This is my personal opinion. This was the private dialogue I had in my own head. (I may be wrong, forgive me). There were so many other interesting issues that we were enlightened upon by our revered speaker. It would be too long and wordy for this entry if I were to list all.
Anyway, since we women, form 50% of the population it is imperative, that we can and should contribute to the economy in a big way, thus to quality of life as well.Cheers,
Ruby.

hi kak ruby
may i make a suggestion, that you publicise events in the blog so readers know about them? it'd be good for us to attend the talks (when we can:)
I agree we women are quite an under untilised resource. Pity.
My fault really for not publicising the event. I organised the talk under Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (PERTIWI) and I honestly thought not many ladies would be interested in having to pay for their lunch.
It was held at the Hilton Sentral and the food was a tad dear by any standard. I thought it would be lovely to have a Western 3-course lunch and listen to an intellectually stimulating talk in a cosy ambience in the company of close friends ... and it was indeed all that and truly lovely.
Chah could have gone on talking for another hour easily but KL ladies are way too busy. Many were seen frantically rushing off for their 4:00pm meetings, hopefully not on the other side of town ... but that won't deter us either. We are so used to multi-tasking, juggling, reaching for the stars while maintaining our calm demeanour ... not me la.
My grandchildren understand that grandma is always very busy with meetings and deadlines but they also know that grandma is there to cuddle them first thing in the morning. Then off she goes all day to share whatever little she knows with whoever wishes to learn.
Thanks, Ruby, for your addiction to blogging. Bet you used to keep a diary in your teens!
I think it is high time we think of ways to inculcate 'First class mind' again, and that I think should go right across the board (men included lah). You always amaze me Ruby, as I agree with you, to achieve that, we must have equally 'First class mind' teachers and nurturers. No two ways about it, I see your point in your private dialogue...LOL.
Ikmal M.
I agree with that quote by Marriene Williamson that it is us women who dishonour ourselves. How true.
Salmah.
I think a lot of women do not realise our own strength and resillience. Until then we can never go far. My 2 cents worth, Ruby.
K Anne.
Mengamcam...tkc babes!! Amat cun.
IM,
fren of an alumnus.
Good morning, K Ruby!
Shouldn't we feel proud being women?
To know that WE contributed most in world growth is just amazing..
Hopefully I'm one of those women. =)
Anyhoo, thanks for putting up the link to my blog.
[Malu la K Ruby.]
I don't write as good as you.
To all my sisters here, have a great day.
Hi Ruby,
I left a comment in your blog but it looks like it's gone now. What happened?
Anyway, thank you for linking me.
love
Hi lil ms d,
Your suggestion is good. Yes for talks/events that are open to all, I will surely post. Anyway K Muni has kindly wrtten a note re recent talk below. Thanks my dear.
Dear Khatijah,
Definitely we are an underutilised group, partly it is our fault. I think it is about time we know our worth and realise it and utilise our resources in a concerted fashion for the good of all of us.
Hi K Muni,
No it was not your fault. Rest easy babe. At that price you thought right. I have had my own personal experiences in getting numbers, it was hard. So I usually resort to personal invites, especially when we are pressed for time.
Everything that you said about a stimulating talk in an exquisite setting with delectable food, you know what, it worked...I heard every word K Chah said. That was brilliant.
Maybe we can do one again for our girls, nah not good idea. Lets do for a mix group, at least we get to mingle.
We certainly can multi-task my dear. Aaah...what little you can share with us...come come now, you are being too humble.
Me and blogging...addiction? That may be quite a mild term...ha ha ha. Love ya, K Muni.
Hi Ikmal M,
You agree with my private dialogue? Ha ha. But that is lovely. Yeah! First Class Mind...it has a nice ring to it. Maybe I shall blog on it in a bit. Thanks Ikmal, and do visit again.
Dear Salmah,
I have learnt that if something did not work or was not up to scratch, do not ever blame others. Take the blame ourselves. In so doing we then empower ourselves to be able to do at least something about it. Thanks for your comment.
Hi K Anne,
That is exactly right. Until we accept, thats when we will go far.
We were jesting at the table. I was delighted to re-connect with a friend I had not seen in 15 yrs. She said I looked the same. I told her when we reached a certain age, first we panic, then we cry, then we accept/redha and then we 'renovate'...ha ha ha! A make over lah, I just like to use the architectural term. Change hair-style, change wardrobe but most of all change our mind-set, be up-to-date, first class mind remember!
Hi IM,
We...cun? Why thank you very much for compliments. How appreciative indeed.
Hi Fizzy dear,
My pleasure to link you and that I baru belajar...he he he. In time nak tidy up, but need IT help. Will get there I hope.
We should be proud being a woman and now that we know this fact, that is why we should not rest on our laurels, but do our utmost to do better.
Thanks for your kind words dear.
Hi Susan,
Lovely to have you here. It is my pleasure to link you. I checked your comment at my other blog, it is still there dear, dont know what happened just now. But loving it, bantering with you.
Cheers.
Ruby.
Wah... dah pandai link up to other websites/blogs!! Clever old girl! (I did have to add the word "old", didn't I?) Way to go! PHEW!! (oops... did I make that big sigh of relief so obvious??)
Anyway, sorry I haven't been of much help to you lately. Getting more and more "babies" with all sorts of problems in my other NGO. Makes me feel so thankful with all that I have or don't have. Maybe I should write about them one day.
For the time being, back to real people with real problems...
In today's world and scenario, both sexes carries equal weight when it comes to matters concerning politics and economics, what more social works.
the only problem is getting rid of chauvanistic pigs (read: MCP men) that hinder these process and still thinks women's place is in the kitchen.
well, to that, obviously these men do not understand the joy of cooking.
:)
Heyyyyyyyyyy Pi,
Berkurun tak dengar. Yeah! Of course , I knowsssss...you have been busy with the marginalised group. Keep it up love.
Link up blogs...aiseh...I am mighty proud. Ha ha ha. After that long-distance-tuition you tried to give me, and I failed miserably (benak hati...read: thick). I played around and voila...it just happened. Perhaps whatever you taught me was slumbering somewhere in my alpha.
Anyway...still need to learn some other tricks. Need to revamp. Meanwhile, you take care dear.
Hi Stupe,
Are you better now? I do hope so.
Aaah...it is music hearing that from you. You belong to the 'liberated men' category. That category to me, is not a huge number in total, I'd say.
MCP men, you say...ha ha ha, coming from a man himself. Need plenty of clones like you, Stupe...and the world will be a much better place, I assure you. All countries will end up being First world! Tha'ts a promise.
Yeah, yeah, stereotype the women. Yeah, yeah, they cook!! Definitely these men do not understand the joy of cooking...haven't they heard of Jamie Oliver?
Here's to men and women enjoying successes on equal turf. Cheers.
Thanks for dropping by. Take care.
Ruby.
