PLease Help Flood Victims

I know, one does not need to highlight the hardship faced when one is left with just the clothes on one's back.


We know.


On that note,

Three immediate collection centres have been set up for you to kindlly donate and contribute items for our FLOOD VICTIMS In Johor and Malacca.

Collection centres are open all weekend.

WE NEED BLANKETS, TIKAR, DRY FOODS, CANNED FOODS (CAN OPENERS TOO), BISCUITS, CLEAN CLOTHES, UNDERGARMENTS AND MANY ESSENTIAL ITEMS LIKE PAMPERS, AND MORE..

You are welcome to think and suggest and donate whatever essentials that victims need, in times of need we need cohesive help. Every useful thought and suggestion counts.

If you have the time and energy and wish to offer help to sort items at centres please call the above numbers.

It has been made known that victims do not need money for now, they need immediately items of food, clothings (t-shirts, kain batiks, kain pelekats) and essentials mentioned above and perhaps you too can think on their behalf, to alleviate the victims' predicament.

Flood victims in Johor desperately in need of pillows, blankets, baby food, clean new underwear. Send items to centres above. You can contact YB Dato Halimah Sadique, the Johor state executive councillor for housing and local government, at +607-7721567 (sms from Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir).

Number of evacuees in six flood affected states has gone past 75 000. The bulk of them are in Johor where situation in some districts is worsening. Apart from items listed above please add donating sanitary pads (sms from Dato Zuraidah Atan)

Whatever you do, please keep calm and be patient. If you tried to ring up numbers and numbers were busy, try and try again. There are many options up there, keep trying if you have important necessary queries. Use your intelligence. Please be economical with volunteers' energy. Everyone is trying their best.

Spoke with someone from BN Backbencher's Club, those who wish to drop items of clothings, they would be grateful if those items could be dropped off at Parliament (Dewan Serbaguna) - just go to the guards and they'll show you. Other items of dried food, pampers, canned food, could be dropped off at the centres (2) Kontena & (3) Putri Umno, contacts as above.

In Pagoh alone 15 000 people (3000 families) were displaced and evacuated. There is acute shortage of clean water. Need water urgently. Please send to Kontena National office in PJ. Address and numbers as above. (sms from Dato Zuraidah Atan).

They need foodstuff, foam mattresses, blankets, disposable nappies, women's underwear, sanitary pads, also cheques and NEW clothes.

Sms from Dr Shah at Pagoh relief centre: We need more Sardine cans. Please help. The centre estimated they need as much as two lorry-loads of sardines. As much as possible. Hujan masih turun (rain is still pouring). Flood victims need food. Tq and salam.

Please do send the sardine cans (do throw can openers too perhaps) to any centres above that is convenient for you.

There have been more floods in Johor and people there are still miserable and need help. The Red Crescent is doing the best they can but they need more, and urgent, help. Raja Zarith Sofia, Chair of Community Services for the Malaysian Red Crescent Society is appealing for money so they can buy stuff. Please send cheques to Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Malaysia (PBSMM), Cabang Johor Bahru, Public Bank a/c no 3110939317.

Mercy Malaysia, in cooperation with Mercy Relief Singapore, has identified clean water as one of the critical needs that flood victims lack. In many areas, the water supply has been cut off due to the processing facilities themselves being inundated by floodwaters. 2nd Jan 2007,

Dear friends, there are still 6332 flood victims at the flood relief centres in Pagoh. The victims' houses are still covered in thick mud. There is great stench with all the flood deposits and debris and flood victims need help to clean the debris so they can move back into their houses and settle in.

The centres are pleading for water jets to clean the houses. The mud is so thick traditional method of cleaning did not work.
